49ers: Purdy Keeps Proving Doubters Wrong

Following a painful turn of events last season, the 49ers found themselves placing all hope on the final draft pick of 2022, Brock Purdy. Purdy did more than just deliver, but took the team as far as the 2022 NFC Championship Game, after mounting convincing victories in the last five games, plus the Wild Card and Divisional matches against the Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks respectively. People thought it was sheer luck. With Week 3 now in the books for the Niners, it’s safe to say that Purdy is THE MAN.

In the season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Purdy sliced through the team like butter. The LA Rams didn’t fare any better. Former 49ers quarterbacks Jimmy Garapoolo nor Trey Lance weren’t going to pull off performances like Purdy. He didn’t make questionable decisions, like taking too long in the pocket or simply throwing the ball and hoping for the best.

Week 3 opponents, the New York Giants, somehow did put up a fight, for a moment. Eventually, Big Blue collapsed and Purdy finished them off. Despite not having wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, he had enough weapons in running back Christian McCaffrey, tight end George Kittle, wide receiver Deebo Samuel, and rookie wide receiver Ronnie Bell.

Purdy didn’t make costly throws, misread the defense, or allowed himself to get sacked. He completed 25 of 37 passes for 310 yards with two touchdown passes, no interceptions and a passer rating of 111.3. He was putting up numbers of a seasoned QB. You see confidence in his face and how he moved on the field. Something his predecessors did not have. That is not luck, it’s skill.

Week 5 will be the toughest challenge, in the early part of the season. After their Week 4 match against the Arizona Cardinals, Purdy will have a rematch against the Cowboys, and possibly their newest acquisition Trey Lance. The Cowboys have a much more potent defense. So that game will truly put Purdy to the test. If all goes well, it will establish that Purdy isn’t all luck. That is the game to keep an eye on.

Do you think Purdy has proved to be the quarterback Niner Nation has been looking for?
